Everything GPT Image 2.5 can do

GPT Image 2.5 is OpenAI's image model, in two versions: Flare, the fast one, and Sunburst, which takes longer over fine detail. It reads up to 16 pictures at once, makes images up to 3840 pixels on the long side, and can return a picture with a transparent background.

Write it like a shoot

A short prompt goes a long way when it names a real place and an hour. This bakery and the shop at the top are a single sentence each; the model fills in the sesame rings, the oven and the fridges. It draws a believable version of the place, not a real one.

For more control, write the prompt the way you'd brief a photographer: what's in the frame, where each thing sits, where the light comes from and where the camera stands. Anything you leave out, the model decides for you. Here the only light is what's in the scene: the pie case, the neon outside, an oil lamp.

Give counts as numbers and place each thing against the others. Empty space is part of the brief too: this banner keeps the top half clear for a headline.

Edits that stay put

Each edit below starts from the one before it: a room, then a new sofa, then a plant, then night. Say what to change and name what to keep. The emerald sofa from the second edit is still emerald in the last one.

Each edit's Dimensions follow its input. At a different size, the model redraws the whole room instead of editing it.

In a busy frame, Sunburst keeps more of what you didn't mention. This edit changes one lid out of six; the other five lids and every handwritten label stay as they were.

The same thing, anywhere

Give it a picture of an object and it keeps the object's details in a new scene. Mention the picture in the prompt and name the details that matter: the colors, the materials, the small parts.

A step can read two pictures. Say which is which by what's in it: here, the camera from the packshot goes on the table in the room from the night edit, lit by its lamp.

Styles by their rules

Name a style by how it's made: the medium, how many colors, the light. The scooter and the angle are the same words in all three; only the style line changes.

Nothing behind it

With Background set to transparent, the picture comes back with nothing behind it, ready to drop onto any layout. Say what's absent too: no background, no surface, no shadow. Flat colors and hard edges cut out cleanest; glass and hair come out soft.

Words and labels

Put every line of text in quotes and say where it goes, top to bottom. For small text, set Quality to high.

It also keeps a lot of small parts apart and labels them itself. This diagram asks for the machine's main parts, in the order they fit together, each with its real name and no label used twice.

Finer detail

Quality runs from low to max: higher draws finer texture and small detail, and costs more. Sunburst takes longer and holds small details better, which pays off in a busy frame or a big print. This one is Sunburst at 3840 × 2160.
